Google has announced a new update to the Chrome browser, introducing AI-driven features. The main addition is the integration of Gemini, an assistant that works based on user context — active tabs, open pages, and ongoing tasks. It can answer questions, identify relevant video segments, help resume previously visited pages, and integrate with services like Google Docs and Calendar.

Gemini is currently available for Windows and Mac users in the U.S. with English set as the browser language. Mobile versions will follow soon.

Another update is the launch of AI Mode in the Chrome address bar (omnibox). It supports multi-step and follow-up queries directly from the search bar. The omnibox now also offers context-based suggestions depending on the content of the current page.

Chrome’s security features have also been expanded. The browser can now autofill login credentials, detect compromised passwords, block new scam patterns, and reduce spam notifications. According to Google, this has resulted in Android users receiving around 3 billion fewer unwanted notifications per day.

«We’re building a browser that not only displays web pages, but helps you interact with them,» said Parisa Tabriz, Vice President of Chrome.
