Gemini Doubles Traffic Share as ChatGPT Slips
ChatGPT’s dominance is starting to erode as Google Gemini accelerates its market growth, reshaping the landscape of generative AI.

Over the past 12 months, ChatGPT has lost a noticeable share of traffic in the generative AI space. In September 2024, it held 87.1% of the market. By September 2025, that number had dropped to 73.8%. Meanwhile, Google Gemini has more than doubled its share — from 6.5% to 13.7%.
This data comes from Similarweb’s monthly analysis of traffic to major AI platforms. Other competitors hold significantly smaller slices. DeepSeek has 3.9%, Perplexity and Grok each hold 2%, Claude is at 1.8%, and Microsoft’s Copilot trails with just 1.2%. According to analysts, these smaller players have seen little change over the year.
«While ChatGPT remains the dominant force, traffic trends point to increasing competition», Similarweb noted. This shift could influence how platforms evolve and monetize their tools.
For creators and developers, this means more options and emerging approaches to content generation.
