Canva has unveiled a major update to its platform with new AI-based features. The key innovation is Canva AI, an assistant that can generate images on request, suggest design ideas, write texts, and create documents.

One of the main features is Canva Code. It allows users to generate mini-apps — for example, interactive maps or calculators — that can be embedded directly into a design. To achieve this, Canva is partnering with Anthropic. As co-founder Cameron Adams noted, “We noticed that teams inside Canva were actively using AI for prototyping. We decided to make this accessible to everyone.”

The image editor has also been updated: now you can modify individual elements in a photo with a simple click and generate a background taking lighting and composition into account. These features make Canva a competitor to Photoshop and other professional editors.

For corporate users, the new Canva Sheets tool has been added — spreadsheets with integration support for HubSpot, Statista, and Google Analytics. Built-in Magic Insights and Magic Charts functions automatically generate visualizations and analytical reports based on data.

Despite debates over the use of artists' work for AI training, Canva continues to implement new solutions. According to Adams, “All professions will change under the influence of AI. We see this as a huge opportunity.”
