Meet Neon: Opera’s New Browser That Can Chat, Do, and Make
Opera Neon

Opera has launched Neon, a fully agentic browser designed to interact with AI agents beyond simple conversations. Built around three core actions — chat, do, and make — Neon is positioned as a tool for users who work with AI daily.

The browser can carry out tasks like summarizing a blog post and posting it to Slack, or retrieving content from previously visited websites. Unlike traditional chat-based interfaces, Neon uses browsing context and automation to perform tasks directly in the browser.

Users can also build repeatable prompts using Cards — modular AI actions that work like commands. By combining Cards like “pull-details” and “comparison-table”, users can create complex workflows, similar to IFTTT. The browser introduces Tasks — isolated workspaces that organize tabs and AI chats for focused projects.

Neon can generate working digital products, such as games, reports, or websites, by breaking tasks into sub-tasks and executing them in the cloud. It can install libraries, fix errors, and continue operations while offline, using a cloud computer hosted on European servers.

Neon runs locally for security and privacy, understanding web content through DOM trees rather than screen capture. Opera is offering access to the browser via invite, with a $19.99 monthly subscription.

IhorLev I write about artificial intelligence, technology, and software. I enjoy breaking down complex things and explaining them simply, with a touch of self-irony, since I’m always learning along with my readers.
