He remembers everything

OpenAI has announced the launch of a new memory feature in ChatGPT. The bot can now take into account the content of previous conversations when generating responses. In the settings, the feature is labeled as "reference to saved memories." The company notes that the goal is to make interactions with the bot more personalized.

The feature is enabled by default for users who previously had memory turned on. In the settings, users can completely disable memory or manage individual memories. This feature does not work in temporary chats—data is not saved there.

Subscribers of ChatGPT Plus and Pro plans have access to the updated memory. In the European Economic Area, the UK, Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, and Liechtenstein, the feature is currently unavailable due to the need for additional checks. A representative of OpenAI told TechCrunch: "We are currently focused on rolling out to paid tiers."

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman wrote on X: "The bot can now, for example, recall the content of a conversation that took place a few days ago." The company added that memory will make responses more relevant and helpful.

Users note the convenience of the new feature, but some express concerns about privacy. Nevertheless, the ability to disable memory and use temporary chats remains.
