Google has begun the wide rollout of its redesigned photo editor in the Google Photos app for Android. The update, version 7.44, is rolling out server-side.

At the bottom of the screen, there's now a new tool carousel with search functionality and tool descriptions. The main "Auto" tab features tools like "Enhance", "Dynamic", and "AI Enhance", which combine multiple algorithms to generate several editing results using AI.

The "Actions" tab includes cropping, object moving, portrait blur, "Best Take", and the well-known "Magic Eraser". A key feature is the contextual editing: tapping, circling, or brushing part of the image now brings up tools relevant to just that part — like "Magic Eraser" or "Reimagine (Magic Editor)".

The UI has been updated with rounded tool buttons, pill-shaped sliders, and smoother animations. Above the image preview are all framing tools — aspect ratio, flip, rotate, and save.

“These tools let you edit just that part and leave the rest of your photo alone,” Google explained.

The redesign also complements other recent visual updates, such as the new photo viewer, the “Create” tab, and the Material 3 expressive backup indicator.

According to 9to5Google, most users are already seeing the update. If not, Google recommends force stopping the app from the App Info page.
