Google’s Biggest Search Update in 25 Years: AI Agents & Smart Search Bar

Google has unveiled a fundamental update to its search engine, marking the biggest change in the last quarter of a century. The main innovations include replacing the traditional search bar with a "smart" field and launching 24/7 AI agents.

The search engine is now powered by the Gemini 3.5 Flash model. It can process not only text but also images, videos, documents, and even open Chrome tabs. The new search field dynamically adapts to complex queries: the system anticipates user intent and helps formulate questions properly, moving away from short keywords. Users can also converse directly within AI Overviews. The system remembers the context of the dialogue, offering increasingly accurate results. The update is gradually rolling out in countries where AI Mode is available.

The biggest breakthrough is the introduction of autonomous AI agents running 24/7 in the background. They can be divided into two categories. Informational agents continuously track required real-time data (news, finance, blogs, sports). Booking agents help find and reserve places for specific requests, such as a restaurant table or karaoke for the weekend. Booking features will be free for US users this summer, while informational agents will only be available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.

Furthermore, thanks to Antigravity technology and Gemini 3.5 Flash coding capabilities, Search can now generate unique interactive elements: charts, tables, and simulations that make complex information easier to grasp. This feature will also launch in the summer and will be free for all users.

Another new addition is Personal Intelligence, which is launching for free in over 200 countries. Users will be able to securely connect their services (Gmail, Google Photos, and eventually Calendar) to Search so the AI can take personal context into account. At the same time, the user retains full control over what data the neural network can access.
